CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's volleyball (2-7, 1-0 Ivy) dominated Dartmouth (3-8, 0-1 Ivy) 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-11) to open Ivy League play this afternoon.
The Harvard defense led the charge in the contest, holding the Big Green to a .041 hitting percentage and recording 13 total blocks.
How it Happened
The Crimson came out of the gate hot, recording the opening five points of the contest. The Big Green then made a mid-set run to pull within one at 13-12. Harvard responded with another five-point run, extending its lead back out to 18-12. The Crimson held off a late set Dartmouth run, ultimately taking the opening set, 25-22.
Harvard continued its strong starts, recording 13 of the first 18 points. The Crimson maintained its momentum, leading by as many as 12 in the set at 22-10. Harvard's lead was enough to put the Big Green away, 25-17.
The Crimson never let up in the match as its most dominant performance came in set three. A strong all-around performance had Harvard up 15-4 to start in the third and the Crimson cruised to a decisive 25-11 victory.
Harvard Highlights
- Brynne Faltinsky led the offensive effort with seven kills and a .294 hitting percentage. The senior captain also added two aces, eight digs, and contributed to five blocks to total a team-best 11.5 points.
- Ali Farquhar and Sofia Rossi each registered six kills in the three-set contest. Farquhar contributed the kills on an impressive .500 hitting percentage.
- Bridget Egan recorded a career-best four aces in the match.
- Hannah Nguyen added two kills and a team-high 11 digs
- Sophia Wei had another double-double with a team-best 14 assists and 10 digs.
- Harvard's defense recorded double-digit blocks for the fourth straight contest with 13 and held the Big Green to a hitting percentage of .041.
- With the win, the Crimson have now won its Ivy League opener in three straight seasons and extends its winning streak against Dartmouth to five.

Harvard will remain on the road next weekend for its first Ivy League back-to-back. The Crimson will first face Cornell on Friday, October 3 at 7:00 p.m. ET in Ithaca, N.Y. before traveling to New York, N.Y. to take on Columbia the following day at 6:00 p.m. ET.
