Baseball’s Gio Colasante Elected as Team Captain for 2026 Season

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball senior Gio Colasante will serve the Crimson as a captain for the 2026 season following a vote of the team's student-athletes, Bill Decker, The Joseph J. O'Donnell '67 Head Coach for Harvard Baseball, has announced.

"Gio was a unanimous choice as selected by his teammates," Decker said. "He is well respected by his peers and our coaching staff, not only by his playing ability, but by the way he carries himself and cherishes his time at Harvard."

Colasante enjoyed a breakout season for the Crimson as a two-way player in 2025, earning First Team All-Ivy as both a utility/pitcher – unanimously – and as a first baseman. He gained a spot on the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List and garnered Ivy League Tournament All-Tournament Team accolades.

"For me personally, he is one of the top character guys I have been around in my career, and I am confident he will continue to put his best foot forward," Decker said.

As a hitter, Colasante led the Crimson in home runs (10), RBIs (33), runs (31), total bases (88), and slugging (.564), while ranking second on the team in average (.314), hits (49), and OBP (.383). As a pitcher, he totaled 36 strikeouts over 31.2 innings and held opponents to a .246 batting average.

Last season, he ranked third in the Ivy League in home runs (10), fourth in slugging (.564), and ninth in total bases (88). During Ivy only play, Colasante stood second in the league in home runs (six), third in total bases (53), third in slugging (.616), sixth in average (.349), sixth in hits (30), and ninth in RBIs (19). His 10 homers on the year ranked in a tie for fifth on Harvard's single-season home runs list.
