Goals from Langenbahn, Tellado Power Men’s Soccer Past Providence, 2-0

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Sophomore Tim Langenbahn scored his first career goal, junior Dylan Tellado netted a goal less than four minutes later, and Harvard University men's soccer defeated Providence College, 2-0, on Friday night at Chapey Field at Anderson Stadium.
 
Playing in its first road match of the year, the Crimson (1-1-0) received first-half goals from Langenbahn and Tellado alongside a shutout from senior goalkeeper Lucian Wood to pick up the road victory over the host Friars (2-3-0).
 
The Crimson scored two goals in a 3:40 span in the first half with Langenbahn and Tellado finding the back of the net in the 22nd and 26th minutes respectively. Tellado tallied his eighth career goal while junior Ben Kelly and sophomores Phoenix Wooten and Xavier Tanyi each posted one assist. Wood made a season-high seven saves in his fifth career clean sheet.

  • Sophomore Tim Langenbahn scored his first collegiate goal with a header in the 22nd minute off a corner kick.
  • Junior Dylan Tellado netted his first goal of the season and the eighth goal of his career with a one-timed shot in the 26th minute to give Harvard a 2-0 lead.
  • Sophomore Phoenix Wooten notched his first collegiate assist, playing in the corner kick that led to Langebahn's goal.
  • Junior Ben Kelly posted his first assist of the year and the third of his career. Kelly led the Crimson in shots (four) and shots on goal (two) in the match.
  • Sophomore Xavier Tanyi registered his first assist of the season and the second of his career.
  • Senior goalkeeper Lucian Wood made seven saves in his first shutout of the season and fifth career clean sheet. He tallied three saves in the first half and four saves in the second half. Wood notched five or more saves for the second straight game and seventh time in his career. He posted seven or more saves in a game for the third time in his career.
  • Among the Crimson's field players, Langenbahn and fellow sophomores Alexander Castel and Nayan Das all played the full 90 minutes.
  • Harvard posted its first shutout of the season as a team.
  • The Crimson led in shots (10-7) and shots on goal (6-3) in the first half. 

How It Happened

  • Wood kept the score at 0-0 in the early going with back-to-back saves in the 16th and 17th minutes.
  • Harvard opened the game's scoring in the 22nd minute as Langenbahn headed a corner kick from Wooten into the back of the net. Langenbahn posted his first career goal while Wooten notched his first career assist.
  • Tellado doubled the Crimson's lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute. After Tanyi played a ball forward to Kelly, Kelly left it off for Tellado to send a one-timed shot into the goal from just inside the penalty area.
  • Wood kept the Friars off the board in the 27th minute as he made a diving save on a dangerous free kick attempt.
  • The Crimson continued to pressure the hosts in the 34th minute, registering three shots on goal from Kelly, Langenbahn, and first-year Christo Velikin.
  • In the first half, Harvard led in shots (10-7) and shots on goal (6-3).
  • Over the course of the second half, the Crimson successfully defended against 11 shots, seven shots on goal, and six corner kicks.
  • Wood opened the second half with a save in the 56th minute before making another stop in the 73rd minute.
  • The Crimson defended against eight Friar shots and three PC corners inside of the final 10 minutes with Wood adding saves in the 83rd and 87th minutes to maintain the clean sheet.
