Casey Severo Nets Game Winning Goal to Lift Harvard Over Clarkson

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Casey Severo was the hero on Saturday night after a late third-period goal to sweep the weekend and give the Crimson a big three points in the ECAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In a fast-paced first period, neither team was able to find the back of the net, with both the Golden Knights and Crimson nearly scoring on the only two dangerous looks of the period.

Clarkson sent a shot just wide from the bottom of the left circle, while Soderwall made a great save on Chase Stefanek, who was looking for his first collegiate goal.

The Crimson had the only power play of the period but were unable to convert.

Heikki Ruohonen opened the scoring with a beautiful goal after cutting through the Golden Knights' defense and picking a corner to give Harvard a 1-0 lead heading into the third.

Clarkson came out firing in the first thirty seconds to tie the game after a bang-bang play in front, setting up a big third period.

Clarkson earned a power play after a Will Hughes penalty and went on to hit the crossbar and put another shot just wide, as the Crimson PK unit held strong and delivered a big momentum shift for Harvard.

Heikki Ruohonen, who was all over the ice over the weekend slate, drew a penalty late in the game to set up a crucial chance for Harvard.

After a tic-tac-toe passing play, Casey Severo was left alone in front to give Harvard the lead with less than two minutes to play. Harvard would go on to seal the deal and deny the Golden Knights the tying goal while they had their net empty.
