PRINCETON, N.J. – Despite storming back late in the third period, men's hockey fell to Princeton after a buzzer led the Tigers to a 3-2 win in regulation.
HOW IT HAPPENED.
The first two shifts for the Crimson produced at least two good scoring opportunities with
Casey Severo and Matthew nearly netting the first goal of the game in the opening minutes. Tricking just wide on both attempts the Crimson controlled the pace to the start the game.
Leading 9-2 in shots halfway through the period, fourth line nearly found the back of the net after
Drake Murray threw a puck on net that barley went wide.
Princeton pushed back late in the period after cutting the shot deficit to just three for the Crimson with
Ben Charette making multiple nice stops late in the frame.
The Tigers came out with a step after the first intermission and put two in the back in the middle period. Beginning with a Crimson broken stick, the Tigers were in the right place at the right time to convert on the first goal of the game before another Tiger opportunity in the slot led to their second of the night.
Princeton took the 2-0 lead into the intermission.
Down by a pair,
Joe Miller started the period with his fourth goal of the season after batting a puck out of the air to pull the Crimson within one. With goals in three of his last four games, the senior captain had Harvard on the board with plenty of time left in the game.
The Crimson was awarded a power-play half way through the period where it looked like the first unit had tied the game after
Richard Gallant buried a loose puck in the crease but the play was blown dead prior to the goal.
Still trailing by a goal,
Salvatore Guzzo capitalized off a falling Tiger defenseman and picked the corner off the rush to tie the game at two. His second of the season, the New Jersey native scored his first career goal at Hobey Baker Rink last season.
Princeton scored on a deflection with two seconds remaining to beat the Crimson 3-2.
