HANOVER, N.H. – Men's hockey fell to No. 11 Dartmouth in a back-and-forth battle Friday evening in Hanover, with the Big Green getting contributions from four different goal scorers in an entertaining matchup. In the Crimson's lone game of the weekend, the penalty kill found the back of the net twice.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Crimson opened the scoring on the penalty kill as
Mick Thompson found the back of the net early. Using a vintage Thompson move, the sophomore faked forehand and lifted a backhand over the Dartmouth netminder for his third career shorthanded goal.
Lucas St. Louis nearly made it 2-0 after battling in the Big Green crease. Originally ruled a goal on the ice, the play was overturned due to goaltender interference, keeping it a 1-0 lead. Dartmouth responded shortly after, tying the game at one heading into the first intermission.
Dartmouth struck early in a busy second period, taking a 2-1 lead on a deflection in front.
Richard Gallant answered once again on the penalty kill after a relentless Crimson PK effort, knotting the game at two. The first-year tallied his first career shorthanded goal and now has four on the season.
The Ivy rivals continued to trade goals as Dartmouth regained the lead before
Donato Bracco fired a puck on net that
Casey Severo redirected to tie the game yet again. Dartmouth would answer once more, retaking the lead with less than a minute remaining in the period after a puck banked in off Charette.
Trailing by one entering the third, the Crimson tied the game for the second straight contest.
Ryan Fine netted his first goal of the season in his return to the lineup, winning a puck battle along the half wall before collecting the loose puck and ripping a quick catch-and-release shot.
Dartmouth scored the eventual game-winner shortly after the Fine equalizer, taking a 5-4 lead when a point shot hit both posts before bouncing into the net.
