CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
– Harvard Women's Swimming and Diving won three swimming events and the three-meter diving event on day one of the annual HYP (Harvard-Yale-Princeton) meet at Blodgett Pool. In each swimming event it won, Harvard posted the top time in the Ivy League this season. With its strong performance, the Crimson leads Yale, 104-46, and Princeton, 81-69, heading into Saturday's final day of competition.
How It Happened
- The divers opened Friday's action with the three-meter board competition. Nina Janmyr started a Crimson winning streak, tallying 335.40 points to take first place. Samantha Holtz finished in third place with a score of 290.15.
- Harvard carried the momentum into the pool, winning the 200 medley relay to open the swimming events. The quartet of Anya Mostek, Aliana Marakovic, Sydney Lu, and Kiley Wilhelm clocked a 1:37.77, the fastest time in the Ivy League this season.
- Alexandra Bastone continued the Crimson winning streak and recorded another Ivy League season-best, edging Princeton's Chloe Kim by 0.86 seconds in the 1000 free. Bastone touched the wall at 9:38.94 to secure the victory, while Carolina Daher placed third with a time of 9:48.69.
- Bastone followed with a second-place finish in the 200 free (1:47.25), while Daher took fourth (1:48.50).
- Anya Mostek delivered a standout performance in the 100 back, breaking the Blodgett Pool record. The previous mark of 52.43 fell as Mostek finished in 52.34, which also stands as the top time in the Ivy League this season.
- Wilhelm added a second-place finish in the 200 fly, touching in at 1:56.01, just 0.35 seconds behind Princeton's Eleanor Sun.
- Harvard recorded two more top-five finishes in the 50 free, with Mostek placing second (22.46) and Lu finishing fourth (23.04).
