Men’s Soccer Extends Shutout Streak in Scoreless Draw at Northeastern

BROOKLINE, Mass. – Harvard University men's soccer generated eight shots on goal and controlled the second half but finished in a scoreless draw against Northeastern on Tuesday night at Parsons Field. Making his first start of the season, goalkeeper Nicholas Willen recorded two saves to earn the shutout. Harvard held Northeastern without a shot on goal during the second half while producing 11 shots and six attempts on target over the final 45 minutes.

The Crimson moved to 2-5-2 overall on the season, earning its second draw of the year in its penultimate non-conference matchup. 

How It Happened

  • Harvard created the first scoring opportunity three minutes into the match when Shane Lonergan placed a shot toward the bottom-right corner, forcing a save from the Northeastern keeper.
  • The Crimson earned consecutive corner kicks moments later before Ben Kelly sent an attempt over the crossbar.
  • Willen made his first save in the 13th minute, stopping a dangerous Northeastern attempt directed into the top left corner of the net.
  • Dylan Tellado generated two shots late in the opening half, including an attempt on goal in the 40th minute.
  • Willen made his second stop in the 42nd minute to keep the match scoreless heading into halftime.
  • Xavier Tanyi forced a save in the 54th minute before Kiko Elliott placed another Crimson attempt on target in the 62nd.
  • Harvard produced its best stretch of pressure beginning in the 77th minute. Gil de Souza struck the right post before Andreas Savva and Lucas Benuce Sarvas forced saves over the ensuing 42 seconds.
  • Kelly placed a shot on goal in the 84th minute before Benuce Sarvas again tested the goalkeeper again one minute later. Alejandro Palacio registered Harvard's final attempt with 33 seconds remaining, but neither side found the deciding goal.
