Game Recap: Men's Ice Hockey |

Men's Hockey Drops Shootout to Brown

PROVIDENCE, RI. - Despite erasing a two-goal deficit late in the game, the Crimson fell to the Brown Bears in a shootout on Friday night at Meehan Auditorium.

Will Hughes and Casey Severo helped force overtime, but a 43-save performance from the Bears was enough to hold the Crimson to just a point on the evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Brown scored the first goal of the game after a bouncing puck in the crease kicked out to the top of the slot, and the Bears pounced on it for an early goal. Despite one getting by the sophomore netminder, Charette was sharp in the period, making 13 saves, many of those coming on second- and third-chance opportunities for the Bears.

Brown doubled its lead in the second period after an odd-man rush left Charlie Gollob alone to pick the corner and put the Crimson in a hole with nearly half the game left to play. The Crimson eventually got one back after Will Hughes jammed home a pass from Richard Gallant for his third of the year and first since January 16.

The Crimson controlled much of the pace in the third period as it looked to tie the game, throwing 34 shots toward the net in the final frame, with 19 hitting the target. Unable to convert on two power-play opportunities, the Crimson pulled its goalie with nearly two minutes left in the game.

Looking for the equalizer, Mick Thompson threw a puck on net that was blocked on the way to the cage before Casey Severo picked it up and tied the game at two to force overtime.

The Crimson killed a penalty in the overtime frame, and with neither team able to convert, the Crimson and Bears went to a shootout, where the Bears took it 2-1.
