Men's Hockey Falls in Overtime to Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT. – Yale scored in overtime as the Crimson split the season series with the Bulldogs after a 3-2 loss on Saturday night.

Matthew Morden and Justin Solovey scored the goals for the Crimson as it picked up two of a possible six points on the weekend, as the ECAC regular season winds down.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Crimson opened the scoring after Will Hughes won a face-off back to Matthew Morden, who walked the line and threw a puck on net that beat Pak to give Harvard an early lead. His second goal in the last three games, Morden has had a career season on the Crimson blueline.

Yale responded shortly after the Morden strike with another shot from the point that got through traffic to beat Charette. Harvard challenged for potential offsides, but after a lengthy review, the game remained tied.

In an entertaining first period, the Crimson responded yet again after Will Hughes chipped the puck into open space for Justin Solovey, who beat the Yale defender and chipped it past Pak for a 2-1 lead. Another helper for Hughes, the sophomore has three points in the last three periods of play.

Yale tied the game again after another shot through a screen. The Crimson had a power play as the first period expired but could not convert.

The score remained the same after the middle frame, with both teams generating decent looks. Ben Charette made a nice stop off a one-timer in the Crimson end before Will McDonough nearly netted his first career goal on a two-on-one.

For the second night in a row, regulation solved nothing and the Ivy foes headed to their second consecutive overtime contest at Ingalls Rink. Working it around the net, Yale threw the puck on net from the side of the cage that managed to hit the back of Charette and bounce just enough across the line to win the game for the Bulldogs.
