Women’s Basketball Falls to Brown, 68-62

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Harvard women's basketball (14-9, 7-3 Ivy) fell, 68-62, to Brown (15-7, 7-3 Ivy) yesterday evening in the finale of the weekend back-to-back.

Despite the loss, Abigail Wright was nearly unstoppable with a career-high 29 points on 12-of-18 shooting including 3-for-4 from three.  The junior also added seven boards, a steal, and a block.

Coming off her own career night, Karlee White had another strong showing with 16 points on 7-of-12 shooting, three rebounds, four assists, and a steal.

How it Happened

The opening frame laid the groundwork for a 40-minute battle as the two foes traded baskets.  The Crimson took one of its only leads of the game with 2:44 left in the first quarter at 14-12 but were then halted by the Bears for the remainder of the quarter.  With back-to-back threes with under a minute, Brown held an 18-14 advantage after one.

The Bears continued to push, extended their lead out to seven in the first couple minutes of the second frame.  Harvard then began to chip away, cutting the deficit to two midway through the quarter.  More sharpshooting from distance for Brown halted the Crimson's growing momentum, however, and the Bears ultimately headed into the locker room with a 34-28 lead.

Brown responded to every Harvard push in the third quarter to hold a multi-possession lead for the entirety.  Even with a narrow advantage for the Crimson in the frame, the Bears still led 47-42 ahead of the final quarter.

White connected immediately in the fourth with a three to cut the deficit to two.  Harvard appeared on the doorstep of a lead on many occasions including trailing by just one at the 7:02 mark.  Brown, however, never fell behind and eventually closed the contest with a 68-62 victory.
