CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – After a 2-0 week that featured an upset win over No. 1 Syracuse, Harvard men's lacrosse swept the Ivy League Weekly honors, earning both the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards.
John Aurandt IV earned his first career award after leading the offense with three goals and an assist in the upset win over the Orange.
Graham Stevens was named the conference Defensive Player of the Week after making 22 saves across two games and posting a .556 save percentage to earn a pair of wins over No. 1 Syracuse and RV Colgate.
The engine of the Crimson's offensive attack in the win over Syracuse, Aurandt posted four points to lead the Harvard offense in the team's 13-12 upset win over No. 1 Syracuse. Aurandt scored a career-high three goals and matched his career high with four points in the contest. The senior struck twice in the second quarter before igniting the Harvard comeback with a goal in the fourth quarter.
Stevens also picked up his first career weekly honor after making 14 saves - including a "game-winner" late in the fourth quarter to keep Harvard in the lead - during the Crimson's 13-12 upset win over No. 1 Syracuse. The sophomore stopped all four shots he saw in the second frame to help Harvard keep Syracuse scoreless in a quarter for the first time this season. Stevens also made 11 saves and allowed only eight goals while picking up six ground balls in a midweek win over RV Colgate. The New Jersey native posted a 55.6-percent save percentage in the Crimson's two victories this week.
This duo played a huge role in helping Harvard men's lacrosse make history this past weekend by upsetting the No. 1 team in the nation. It was the first win over a No. 1 ranked team in program history and the first win over a No. 1 by any Harvard team in an NCAA sport since 2013.
Now ranked the No. 4 team in the nation, Harvard will begin a three-game stretch away from Jordan Field this week when it travels to Long Island to take on Marquette in a neutral site showdown. The Golden Eagles and the Crimson will meet on the field at Chaminade High School in Mineola, N.Y. with first faceoff set for 12:00 PM. The game will be streamed live courtesy of Varsity Media on YouTube.
