How it Happened
- The Crimson made the trip down to Philadelphia today to battle the No. 16 Penn Quakers on their home turf at Franklin Field. The Ivy rivals faced off on Saturday during the opening weekend of the 2026 Ivy League Lacrosse season.
- The Quakers were first on the scoreboard in the contest but Logan Ip quickly tied the score with his first tally of the game. Harvard's defense settled in after the early Quaker goal, holding Penn off the boad for the next 13-plus minutes. Starting Harvard goalkeeper, Graham Stevens, made four stops in the Penn drought to give the offense room to work.
- Harvard did in fact go to work in the first quarter, scoring five consecutive goals to open an early lead. Ip provided the first goal and Teddy Malone followed up with back-to-back goals in the stretch. Jack Petersen joined the party with a goal and John Aurandt IV capped off the run with a steal and score play late in the quarter.
- Penn ended the run with a last-second goal to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Crimson after the first quarter.
- Another seven saves by Stevens in the second quarter kept Harvard's lead intact. The Quakers did manage to go on a mini scoring run early in the second, striking twice to make the score 5-4 with seven minutes left in the half. Once again, the Crimson offense went to work to restore a three-goal advantage. Andrew Perry tallied a goal and Malone completed his first-half hat trick to help Harvard build a 7-4 lead heading into the half-time break.
- A fast-paced third quarter began with a goal from Francisco Cortes to make the score 8-4 Harvard. After a Penn matched with a goal of its own, the Crimson put together an impressive fast-break goal that saw Finn Pokorny run the full length of the field before finding Malone on the doorstep for his fourth goal of the afternoon.
- Malone added another tally in the midst of a short-lived 3-1 run by the Quakers at the end of the third quarter. The Quaker response narrowed the Crimson lead to 10-8 after 45 minutes of play.
- The fourth quarter opened with a long defensive stand for both sides. A pair of saves by Stevens and a string of great defensive possessions by the Crimson defense held the Quakers off the scoreboard for the first 12 minutes of the final quarter. Aurandt gave the team the cushion it needed with a pair of goals in crunch time that restored a four-goal Crimson advantage.
- The Crimson defense would allow just one more goal to the Quakers to hold onto the lead and run out of Philadelphia with a 12-9 result over Penn. The result marked the first Crimson victory at Franklin Field in 20 years.
