Gio Colasante each hit a solo home run, but Harvard University baseball dropped an 11-7 decision to Rice University in the series opener on Friday night at Reckling Park.

Trailing 7-0 through two innings in the first game of its second weekend of the season, the Crimson (0-4) battled back to score seven of the game's next 10 runs to pull within 10-7 in the top of the eighth before the hot Owls (4-6) held on for the decision.

Colasante hit his second homer of the year, finishing 2-for-5 with two RBIs while Smith hit his first homer of the year alongside two walks. Junior
Jack Rickheim went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a double while sophomore right-hander
Owen Tahnk did now allow a run or hit over 2.0 innings of relief.

- Senior right-handed pitcher/designated hitter Gio Colasante finished 2-for-5 at the plate, with a home run, two RBIs, and a run scored. He hit his second homer of the year. In the start on the mound, Colasante threw 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.

How It Happened
- Rice opened the game with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Owls added four runs in the bottom of the second to pull ahead 7-0.
- Harvard countered with three runs in the top of the third, pulling within 7-3. Smith started the frame's scoring with a solo home run to left field before Rickheim hit an RBI double down the left field line. Colasante capped the frame's scoring with an RBI single to left field.
- The hosts added two runs in the last of the third to move ahead 9-3 and tacked on another run in the bottom of the seventh to take a 10-3 edge.
- The Crimson answered with four runs in the top of the eighth to trim the difference to 10-7. Colasante sparked the stanza's scoring with a solo home run to right field before Kang notched an RBI on an infield single. Witkow brought home a run with a walk before Rickheim closed the frame's scoring with an RBI single up the middle.
- Rice plated the game's final run with one run in the bottom of the eighth.Â
