How it Happened

  • The Crimson made its way down to Long Island this afternoon to take on the Marquette Golden Eagles in a neutral site showdown at Chaminade High School. The alma mater of the Frisbie Family Head Coach for Harvard men's lacrosse, Gerry Byrne, Chaminade hosted the schools in Harvard's first game away from Jordan Field this season.
  • Marquette made the first move in the contest, stringing together three straight goals in the opening three minutes to build an early 3-0 lead. A Harvard timeout and ensuing faceoff win by Matt Barraco led to a Harvard's first goal – scored by Teddy Malone – to kill the run. The strike was assisted by Andrew Perry who collected his first point of the afternoon. Marquette countered with a pair of goals to increase its lead to 5-1 at the halfway point of the first quarter.
  • Harvard closed out the quarter with a two-goal scoring run to cut the Marquette lead to 5-3. Nathan Cobery tallied his first goal of the game, followed by Malone's second of the quarter to help Harvard inch closer to the Eagles total.
  • The Crimson continued the run in the second quarter, scoring three consecutive goals in the opening six minutes of the quarter to take its first lead of the game at 6-5. Long Island natives Jackson Green and jack Speidell contributed in the scoring run as Greene struck first followed by back-to-back goals by Speidell.
  • After a one-goal counter by Marquette, Speidell, Cobery and John Aurandt IV strung together three goals in the final five minutes of the second quarter to help Harvard build a 9-6 lead heading into halftime. Graham Stevens tallied six saves in the half to anchor the defensive effort and spring a 6-1 Harvard run in the second quarter.
  • Harvard came out of the second half flying, quickly reaching the 10-goal mark after Speidell tallies his fourth goal of the day off an assist from Perry. Marquette fought back with a goal – its only goal of the quarter – before Harvard went on another five-goal scoring run in a nine-minute stretch. Speidell scored the first, fourth and fifth goals in the run to increase his game total to reach a new career high with seven goals. Logan Ip found the back of the net for the first time in the game during the run and Aurandt tallied another goal to contribute.
  • The Golden Eagles scored the final goal of the third quarter with time winding down but still faced a 15-8 deficit heading into the final frame.
  • An early goal by Perry was sandwiched in between a pair of Marquette goals, the foe's final two tallies of the contest. Harvard ended the game with a dominant offensive and defensive stretch that featured goals from Jared Maznik, Nathan Cobery and Mac Mohn. The Crimson defense forced five turnovers and Stevens added one more save to help Harvard outscore Marquette 4-2 in the final quarter.
  • After the final horn sounded, Harvard ran away with a 19-10 win over Marquette to improve to 4-0 on the season.
