Men’s Tennis Splits Sunday Doubleheader

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's tennis (6-4) split its Super Bowl Sunday doubleheader yesterday afternoon, narrowly falling to No. 13 NC State, 4-3, and defeating crosstown foe Boston University, 4-0.

How it Happened vs. NC State

It was a gritty battle from the opening serve with the Crimson eventually stealing the doubles point in a tiebreak in the final outstanding match.

The two teams traded 6-3 wins at the top two courts, leaving the doubles point in the hands of the No. 3 spot matchup.  James MacDonald and Masato Perera ultimately remained perfect on the year, defeating Charlie Camus and William Manning (NC State) in the tiebreaker.  MacDonald provided the final blow, delivering an ace to lift the Crimson to a 7-3 tiebreaker win.

The Wolfpack regrouped in singles, notching three straight victories to power in front 3-1.  Despite the momentum shifting to NC State, the Crimson continued battling beginning with Rohan Murali defeating Ainius Sabaliauskas (NC State) in straight sets, 7-6 (8), 6-3.

Benjamin Privara then added another Harvard point to tie the match, recording a strong come-from-behind victory over the No. 11 nationally ranked singles player, Martin Borisiouk (NC State).  After falling 6-3 in the first set, Privara recorded two of his own 6-3 results to defeat the top-15 player.

The Wolfpack ultimately came out on top, stealing the final match at the No. 5 spot in three sets.
