Baseball Falls at Rice in Series Finale, 9-0

HOUSTON, Texas – Harvard University baseball fell to Rice University, 9-0, in the series finale of a three-game set on Sunday afternoon at Reckling Park as both teams opened the month of March.
 
Competing in its second weekend of the 2026 season, the Crimson (0-6) threatened in the top of the sixth, but the Owls (6-6) took the decision, bringing a combined no hitter into the top of the ninth before sophomore Cullen Stone registered a hit.
 
On the mound for Harvard, junior right-hander Andrew Abler threw 4.0 innings in the start, allowing four runs with two strikeouts. First-year right-hander Davis Kahn tossed 2.0 innings, permitting one run with a strikeout, and sophomore right-hander Daniel Sams hurled 1.1 innings, giving up one run with two strikeouts.

  • Junior right-hander Andrew Abler threw 4.0 innings in the start, allowing four runs, all earned, on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
  • First-year right-hander Davis Kahn tossed 2.0 innings in relief, permitting one run on one hit and no walks with a strikeout.
  • Sophomore right-hander Daniel Sams hurled 1.1 innings in relief, giving up one run on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.
  • Sophomore Cullen Stone registered a single as a pinch hitter for the Crimson's lone hit of the day, breaking up a combined no hitter in the top of the ninth.
  • Sophomore Liam Wilson, sophomore Gavin Smith, and first-year Aidan Colasante each worked a walk.

How It Happened

  • The Owls opened the game's scoring with two runs in the bottom of the first and added another run in the last of the second to move ahead 3-0.
  • Following scoreless frames from the Crimson pitching staff in the third and fourth innings, Rice tacked on another pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth, gaining a 5-0 advantage.
  • Harvard threatened in the top of the sixth as sophomore Gavin Smith and first-year Aidan Colasante each worked walks to put runners on first and second with no outs before the hosts escaped the jam.
  • Rice extended its margin to 9-0 with four runs in the last of the seventh.
