RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Senior right-handed pitcher
Gio Colasante did not allow an earned run over 5.0 innings in the start, but Harvard University baseball fell to California Baptist University, 5-1, in the series opener on Friday night at James W. Totman Stadium.

Opening a four-game series at the outset of Harvard's spring recess, the Crimson (0-10) did not give up a run in six of the team's eight defensive half innings, but the host Lancers (15-4) scored four runs in the fourth and one in the eighth to take the decision.

Colasante allowed four runs – all unearned – on three hits and four walks with four strikeouts while first-year right-hander

Jack Smith, and senior left-hander
Brian Dowling combined to throw 3.0 innings in relief, giving up only one run on two hits and two walks with one strikeout.Â

How It Happened
- Gio Colasante did not allow a run or hit over the game's first three frames.
- CBU then plated four unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth, scoring once on a throwing error before bringing in three runs with a double to right center.
- The Crimson cut the margin to 4-1 with a run in the top of the sixth. After Rickheim walked with one out, he moved to second on a single from Shulman before later coming home following a ground ball from Kane.
- The Lancers scored once more in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly to take a 5-1 edge.
