Colasante Homers, Baseball Falls to Yale in Series Finale, 5-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – Senior Gio Colasante hit a home run and a double for both of the Crimson's RBIs on the day, but Harvard University baseball fell to Yale University, 5-2, on Sunday afternoon at George H.W. Bush Field.

In the series finale and rubber match of a three-game set, the Crimson (6-19, 5-6 Ivy) scored two of the game's final three runs but could not rally past the host Bulldogs (19-10, 9-3 Ivy) after the two teams split a doubleheader on Saturday.

Colasante went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a home run, and a double, launching his team-high sixth homer of the year, junior Jack Rickheim hit his team-high seventh double of the season, and first-year left-hander Brett Gable tossed 1.2 innings of scoreless relief with a strikeout.

Harvard remains in fourth place in the Ivy standings – a half game ahead of Columbia (5-7 Ivy) – while Yale continues to hold the top spot in the conference rankings – a half game ahead of Brown (8-3 Ivy).

  • Harvard cut into the margin in the top of the sixth. After Rickheim got into scoring position with a double to right center, Colasante brought him home with a double of his own to left field, bringing the Crimson within 4-1.
  • The Bulldogs scored once in the bottom of the seventh to move ahead 5-1, but the Crimson turned its second double play of the game to remain within four runs heading to the eighth.
  • Colasante hit a solo home run to left field in the top of the ninth before Yale held on for the decision.
