Cherry Hill, N.J. – No. 1 Harvard-Radcliffe women's lightweight rowing closed out a competitive weekend at the Knecht Cup with several top finishes. The Black and White secured a first-place finish in the lightweight eight, runner-up finishes in the second varsity eight and lightweight four, and a tight third-place finish in the novice four. The varsity eight won the Knecht Cup in the grand final, while the second varsity eight placed second in a close race, finishing fifth overall. The varsity eight's win in the grand final also earned the Black & White a victory for the Class of 2004 Cup over Georgetown.
Harvard-Radcliffe's second varsity eight opened racing in semifinal three, placing fifth in 7:33.02 in a competitive heat led by Boston College.
The varsity eight followed with a strong showing in semifinal three, taking first in 7:13.44 ahead of Boston University by just over four seconds to secure a spot in the grand final. In the women's double final, the Crimson faced a tight field, with the Harvard-Radcliffe boat finishing sixth in 9:12.78 in a race where less than 15 seconds separated the field.
The lightweight four crew delivered a strong performance in the final, earning silver in 8:22.06 and finishing just over two seconds behind Wisconsin in a competitive race. In the novice four petite final, Harvard-Radcliffe battled in a tightly packed field, placing third in 9:20.60, less than a second off second place.
The lightweight eight captured gold in 6:52.37, holding off Boston University by over three seconds in a composed race. The second varsity eight returned for its final and placed second in 7:15.49, finishing just over three seconds behind Holy Cross while staying within striking distance in a tight field.
Capping the regatta, the varsity eight claimed the grand final victory in 6:50.08, outpacing UMass by nearly three seconds in a fast, competitive race to secure the Knecht Cup title.
