Women’s Tennis Hosts Columbia, Cornell in Final Ivy Weekend

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard women's tennis (11-9, 1-4 Ivy) will conclude its regular season this weekend on its home courts against No. 49 Columbia and Cornell. The Crimson will open its back-to-back matches against the nationally ranked Lions on Saturday, April 18 before hosting the Big Red on Sunday, April 19 and celebrating Charlotte Owensby on Senior Day.

The Last Time Out

  • The Crimson split its matches last weekend, defeating Brown, 4-1, and falling in a battle to No. 58 Yale, 4-1.
  • Harvard opened the weekend against the Bears and picked up the league win in dominant fashion.
  • The Crimson began the day with the doubles point following wins from the duos of Natalie Block/Natasha Rajaram and Kavya Karra/Andra Braicu.
  • Claire Shao, Block, and Braicu then provided three straight-set singles wins to seal the victory for Harvard.
  • Two days later, Harvard battled against the Bulldogs, again winning the doubles point but eventually falling, 4-1, in New Haven.

  • Natalie Block and Natasha Rajaram are nearing a double-digit win total as a duo with a record of 9-5 during the dual season.
  • Claire Shao is having a strong first-year campaign and has a record of 15-10 throughout the spring season.

For the Foes

  • Columbia is 4-1 in the Ivy League and 14-4 overall. The Lions were handed their first loss of the season last weekend against No. 48 Princeton.
  • The Crimson has a dominant 33-9 lead over the Lions in the all-time series including having narrowly beaten Columbia, 4-3, last season.
  • Harvard also holds a staggering advantage in the all-time series against Cornell with a 47-5 lead. The Crimson has won 10 straight meetings against the Big Red.
  • The Big Red is 7-11 on the year and is still looking for its first Ivy League win of the season.
