Men's Volleyball Drops Tightly-Contested 5 Set Match against Rival Princeton

Cambridge, Mass. – Harvard Men's Volleyball (6-16, 3-8 EIVA) fell in a five-set battle to Princeton (6-14, 2-9 EIVA), 3–2, in EIVA action (25–18, 22–25, 25–23, 21–25, 12–15)

The Crimson came out firing, opening the match with a commanding 25–18 first-set victory. Harvard set the tone early with an aggressive offensive rhythm and strong play at the net to take control of the match.


After Princeton responded to even the match, Harvard continued to compete point-for-point in a tightly contested battle. The teams traded sets throughout the night, with the Crimson earning another set win to force a decisive fifth.

Princeton countered with a balanced effort, recording 56 kills, 10 blocks, and three aces. The Tigers capitalized on key moments and benefited from 20 Harvard service errors to help swing momentum throughout the match.

The Crimson took back a win in the third set, capitalizing on breaking through Princeton's defense. 

The back-and-forth contest featured multiple momentum shifts, with neither team able to fully separate. In the decisive fifth set, Princeton edged out Harvard to clinch the match and the conference win. 

Harvard Highlights

    •    Quinn Bishop broke his career high record with 11 digs. The Outside Hitter also added a season-high three service aces and 13 kills

    •    Zach Berty recorded a season-high 16 kills at the net

    •    Owen Woolbert tallied 11 kills and 2.5 total blocks

    •    Brian Thomas and Sawyer Nichols each added 8 kills, the former middle blocker hit at an outstanding .500 hit percentage

    •    Despite the loss, The Crimson outscored Princeton in total team kills (59–56)

Up Next

Harvard drops to 6-16 overall (3-8 EIVA). The Crimson must defeat The Tigers in Saturday's 4:00 PM matchup in order to qualify for the EIVA tournament. The match will stream on ESPN+.
