Beanpot Stays in Cambridge

No. 1 Harvard-Radcliffe lightweight rowing dominates varsity eight race to win Beanpot and Muri Cup.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The No. 1 Harvard-Radcliffe women's lightweight rowing team retained the Beanpot and Muri Cup with wins on the Charles River Saturday morning. The varsity eight was victorious in a time of 6:28.428 to wrap up racing for the day; besting BU by more than 17 seconds.

The varsity eight, stroked by Elle Krywosa, got out to an early lead on choppy water and pulled away early as Beanpot opponents BU and MIT had a tightly contested race for second until the final stretch.

The day started for the Black and White with Britt Wotovich and Stella Sweitzer skulling in the 2xA. The novice boat, stroked by Meena Behringer, then placed second against MIT and Gordon. Harvard registered its first win of the day in the varsity four A, stroked by Michaela Darcy, narrowly defeating MIT by a second and a half with a time of 7:30.6. The final race before the varsity competed for the Beanpot was the varsity four B, stroked by Julia Maciejak.
