CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard softball closed out its weekend series with Penn this morning, as the Crimson battled in a back-and-forth 9-8 defeat against the Quakers at Soldiers Field.

Sheila Forbes each recorded three hits. Harvard thrived with two outs at the plate this weekend against the Quakers, driving in 18 runs and hitting .459 with two outs on the scoreboard.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Another first inning home run arrived for Harvard (18-17-1, 10-5 Ivy League) in the series finale, as Payne launched a two-run home run to the scoreboard in left field to provide Harvard a 2-0 advantage. A native of Liberty Township, Ohio, Payne is tied for the team lead in home runs with a career-high eight and ranks second with 38 RBIs this season.
From there, Penn (16-21, 7-8) scored the next six runs of the contest across the second and third innings to open a 6-2 lead, as Harvard battled back in its half of the third inning. Quinn Salazar-Stewart pulled Harvard within a run of Penn, 6-5.
The top half of the fourth saw Penn tally three runs to regain its four-run lead, 9-5, as once again Harvard rallied to stay connected with the Quakers on the scoreboard. With runners on first and second base, Ziecik launched a pitch to deep center field for a three-run home run, 9-8. This is Ziecik's second career home run and her first at Soldiers Field.
Penn secured the 9-8 victory with scoreless efforts in the sixth and seventh innings. Harvard outhit the visitors, 12-9, as Szollosi and Forbes each finished with three hits. Ziecik drives in three or more runs in a game for the second time this season.

- Harvard hit a home run in the first inning in the series opener and the series finale against Penn.
- Payne is now tied for the team lead in home runs with eight and ranks second in RBIs with 38. Both marks represent career highs for Payne.
