CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball plays at Holy Cross on Tuesday, Apr. 28 at 5:00 p.m. (ESPN+) at Fitton Field in Worcester, Massachusetts as the Crimson competes in its final non-league game and final mid-week contest of the season.
What to Know
- The Crimson (8-25) and Crusaders (18-25) square off in a contest that was originally scheduled for March 24. Harvard, which sits two games back in the win column from fourth place in the Ivy League standings, will compete in its final non-league game and final mid-week contest of the season.
- Tuesday's pitching matchup will feature Harvard LHP Brian Dowling (1-1, 8.84 ERA) squaring off with Holy Cross RHP Aidan Gilbert (1-0, 5.14 ERA).
- Harvard trails Holy Cross in the all-time series, 68-106, in a series that dates back to 1883.
- As a team during conference only play, Harvard ranks third in the Ivy League in team ERA (4.89). - Sophomore left-handed pitcher Luca Alagheband earned Ivy League Pitcher of the Week on Apr. 27. Alagheband posted a 0.84 ERA over 10.2 innings pitched and two appearances on the week, allowing one earned run on five hits and two walks with 12 strikeouts and holding opponents to a .128 average.
- Senior infielder/right-handed pitcher Gio Colasante – a semifinalist for the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award and a two-time Ivy League Player of the Week (Mar. 23 and Mar. 31) this season – has hit .299 on the year with seven home runs, 25 RBIs, 38 hits, 22 runs, and six doubles. As a pitcher, he has notched a 4.65 ERA over 50.1 innings. He ranks first in the Ivy League in home runs (seven), fifth in slugging (.528), and sixth in OPS (.920) as well as eighth in opposing average (.229) as a pitcher. In Ivy only play, he has posted a .371 average with five homers, 14 RBIs, 26 hits, six doubles, and 13 runs as a batter while posting a 3.19 ERA and 3-1 record over 36.2 innings as a pitcher. In conference only play, he stands second in the Ancient Eight in home runs (five), second in OPS (1.150), third in slugging (.700), seventh in average (.371), seventh in OBP (.450), and ninth in hits (26), while ranking seventh in innings pitched (36.2), seventh in wins (three), ninth in opposing average (.206), and 10th in ERA (3.19) as a pitcher.
- Junior shortstop Jack Rickheim has hit .321 on the season with seven home runs, 23 RBIs, 44 hits, 28 runs, and seven doubles. In Ivy only play, he has hit .382 with 29 hits, 20 runs, 18 RBIs, and six homers. Rickheim ranks first in the Ivy League in homers (seven), fourth in slugging (.540), seventh in OPS (.912), eighth in hits (44), and ninth in average (.321). In conference only play, he stands first in home runs (six), second in runs (20), second in hits (29), second in slugging (.711), third in OPS (1.138), fifth in average (.382), and fifth in RBIs (18). In the series vs. Penn (Apr. 25-26), he hit .571 (8-for-14) with two homers and five RBIs. In the series finale at Cornell (Mar. 30), he went 4-for-6 with two home runs, five RBIs, four runs, and a double.
- Sophomore right-hander Andrew Abler has registered a 5.51 ERA on the year with 33 strikeouts over 50.2 innings. He earned the win in the series finale at Cornell (Mar. 30), throwing 6.0 innings and permitting two runs – both unearned – with a season-high six strikeouts. Abler tallied a season-high six strikeouts over 4.0 innings at Tulane (Feb. 20) before throwing 6.0 innings and permitting just three runs at Liberty (Mar. 8).
- Out of the bullpen, first-year left-hander Brett Gable and junior right-hander Ryan McHugh have both registered ERAs below 4.00. Gable has notched a 2.70 ERA with 19 strikeouts over 20.0 innings with two saves while McHugh has posted a 3.38 ERA with 16 strikeouts over 21.1 innings with two saves. In conference play, Gable has registered a 0.00 ERA with six strikeouts over 10.1 innings with two saves, and McHugh has compiled a 2.70 ERA with nine strikeouts over 13.1 innings.
- The Crimson played its first 19 games of the season on the road. The stretch started with four series – at Tulane (Feb. 20-22), at Rice (Feb. 27 to Mar. 1), at Liberty (Mar. 6-8), and at California Baptist (Mar. 13-16) – outside the region. Harvard then played two Ivy series – at Columbia (Mar. 21-22) and at Cornell (Mar. 29-30) to close out the stretch.
- Harvard was selected to finish fourth in the 2026 Ivy League Baseball Preseason Poll. The Crimson totaled 73 points to land in the top half of the eight-team poll. Columbia (118 points, nine first-place votes), Yale (116 points, seven first-place votes), and Penn (100 points) took the poll's top three spots. Princeton (49 points), Cornell (45), Dartmouth (41), and Brown (34) rounded out the poll in order.Â
