ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – Fourth-seeded Harvard Sailing earned a spot in the finals of the ICSA Women's Fleet Racing National Championship after it finished in second place in the Eastern Semifinals. The Crimson completed the two-day semifinal round with a score of 98. No. 1-seed Stanford won the Eastern side of the draw with an 81.
After finishing six races on Friday, the field was looking to complete eight today, but fell well short as only four were contested. On the water for the Crimson were
Zoey Ziskind and crew
Christina Chen (7-8) and
Amelie Zucker (9-10), who went up against the A-Division. On the B-side were skippers
Kate Danielson (7-8) and
Sophia Montgomery (9-10), and crew
JJ Drummond (7-8) and Chen (9-10).
Ziskind-Chen started the day with an impressive runner-up effort in Race 7 before capturing Race 8. The duo of Danielson and Drummond, meanwhile, came in third place and ninth place, respectively. With a spot in the finals all but secured, Harvard's Ziskind-Zucker posted a two-race line of 7-12 to finish the day, while Montgomery-Chen turned in a 12-4.
Over two semifinal days, the Crimson's A-sailors finished in the top 10 in nine of 10 races. Harvard's B-Division competitors, meanwhile, registered nine top-9 performances.
The Crimson will return to action on Sunday for the first of two days of finals competition. Harvard is looking for its first ICSA fleet racing national title since 2005 and its sixth overall.
