ATHENS, Ga. – The Harvard men's golf team closed out its historic 2025-26 season at the NCAA Athens Regional, finishing tied for eighth in the best performance at Regionals in program history. Led by Barry Zhang's tournament score of 202 (-11), Harvard finished above two top 50 teams in the talented field at the regional and just 10 shots back of qualification into the NCAA National Championship Tournament field.
 
Harvard shattered program records at this year's regional, breaking the team NCAA Regional scoring record by 56 shots and beating the lowest NCAA regional round by 16 shots in the final round on Wednesday (May 20).
 
As a team, Harvard posted its best score of the tournament with a 278 (-6), moving up one spot into eighth place, where it would finish the tournament tied with No. 50 Northwestern. With a team score of 843 (-9), the Crimson finished the tournament 10 shots back of fifth place, missing out on the qualification to the NCAA National Championships. An impressive result against a talented field, Harvard defeated two top 50 teams in No. 12 Illinois and No. 37 Kansas at the event.
 
The Crimson's final round was powered by Barry Zhang's five-under round of 66. The Sophomore made a strong push for the individual medalist title on the back nine, carding five birdies to move to 11-under for the tournament and put him in contention for NCAA Championship qualification as an individual. Zhang would end up as the individual runner-up at the end of the day, as Malan Potgieter of UL-Lafayette, secured medalist honors after shooting 14-under at the tournament, the lowest in the field.
 
Not only did Zhang record the best NCAA Regional finish in program history at the regionals by coming in T4, but the sophomore also posted the lowest score in relation to par (-11) and the lowest round in relation to par (-6) by a Harvard golfer in the regional round.
 
William Ma closed out his regional run with his best round of the tournament, carding a 67 (-4) with five birdies and only one bogey. Ma finished the tournament at five-under-par and tied for 14^th place, the third-best finish by a Harvard golfer at NCAA Regionals in program history.
 
Ieuan Jones had a bounce back round on day three, coming in with a score of 72 (+1) to secure a T64 finish in the field with his tournament score of 220 (+7). Isaac Ahn carded five birdies in his final round to shoot a 74 (+2) and finish T68 in the field. Morgan Riley fired off three birdies on the back nine of his final round to come in with a 74 (+3) and secure a T60 finish at the regionals.   
 

Harvard Highlights

• Barry Zhang's T4 finish is the highest ever by a Harvard golfer at NCAA Regionals.
• His score in relation to par (-11) is also the best at regionals in team history.
• The sophomore also posted the lowest round score in relation to par (-5) by a Harvard golfer at regionals.
• Zhang had the second-best scoring average on par four holes in the field with a 3.76 clip (-8).
• Zhang's 14 birdies were tied for the ninth most in the field and his 37 pars were T12.
• The sophomore only carded three bogeys in the entire tournament, the third fewest in the field.
• William Ma finished the tournament T14, the third-best regional finish by a Harvard golfer.
• His third-round score of 67 (-4) is the second-best round in relation to par at regionals in team history.
• Ma and Morgan Riley were tied for the third-best scoring average on par three holes with a 2.83 clip and an aggregate score of two-under on the short holes.
• Isaac Ahn was one of only six golfers in the field to record an eagle, and the only player in the field to hole out from the fairway for eagle on a par four.
