CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard Men's Swimming and Diving rising sophomore William Mulgrew is set to continue action at the Toyota National Championships in Irvine, California. The Walpole native is slated to compete in the 400-meter freestyle on Friday and swim in the 800-meter freestyle on Saturday.
 
The 2026 CSCAA Second-Team All-American became the United States 1500-meter freestyle champion when he finished with a sub-15-minute time on Tuesday night. Mulgrew completed the race in a lifetime-best 14:58.50, which was nearly 10 seconds faster than runner-up Sean Green (15:07.03). He now owns the fastest 1500 time among American swimmers this year, and was the 22^nd American to finish under 15 minutes in event history and posted the 17^th-best performance in U.S. history.
 
Mulgrew now turns his attention to his final two events of the Championships. He is slated for Lane 7 in Heat 9 of 10 for Friday's 400-meter free. The tentative start time is 1:18 p.m. ET/10:18 a.m. PT. As for the 800-meter free, Mulgrew is scheduled to swim in the fastest heat on Saturday afternoon, with a start time to be determined. The last heat, however, is set to end at 7:45 p.m. ET/4:45 p.m. PT.
 
Mulgrew's teammate, rising senior David Schmitt, meanwhile, completed his time at U.S. Nationals on Thursday. One of two team captains for 2026-27, Schmitt swam in the 200m fly on Tuesday (1:59.37; 26^th), 50m fly on Wednesday (25.30; T-80^th) and 100m fly on Thursday (53.81; 43^rd).
