CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard men's soccer (1-2-0, 0-0-0 Ivy) took an early lead before falling to Providence (3-1-1, 0-0-0 BIG EAST), 3-1, on Friday evening at Jordan Field.
Tim Langenbahn scored his first goal of the season, while
Alexander Castel and
Alejandro Palacio each registered an assist.
How it Happened
- Adam Poliakov produced the first shot of the match in the fourth minute as Harvard generated the early pressure.
- The Crimson opened the scoring in the ninth minute when Langenbahn found the back of the net off assists from Castel and Palacio.
- Providence responded in the 13th minute, with Brandon Marshall scoring off an assist from Angelo Ventrella to level the match at 1-1.
- Harvard continued to create opportunities following the equalizer. Andreas Engle placed a shot on goal in the 14th minute before the Crimson added three more attempts over the next 15 minutes.
- Alvaro Maneiro put Providence ahead in the 31st minute, converting a pass from David Casado.
- Palacio nearly pulled Harvard even shortly before halftime, but his shot toward the upper-left corner was stopped by Providence goalkeeper Ryan Carney. The Crimson entered the break trailing 2-1 despite holding a 9-5 advantage in shots.
- Maneiro added his second goal of the match in the 65th minute to extend Providence's lead to 3-1.
- Gil de Souza put an attempt on goal two minutes later, but Carney made the save.
- Harvard generated four corner kicks and three additional shots over the final 16 minutes, but the Crimson could not cut into the deficit as Providence took the result at Jordan Field by a final score of 3-1.
