Leadership

  • Finding Success: A Captain’s Workshop
    • The Department of Athletics, in coordination with Dr. Craig Rodgers at Harvard's Bureau of Study Counsel, has organized a one-session Captains' Leadership Development Program. The program will be an opportunity to interact with fellow captains, brainstorm ideas for improvement of team culture, and discuss the leadership challenges that may occur in this position going forward. This workshop will further refine the skill set and mindset that elected captains already possess to make each individual an even more effective Harvard varsity captain. To do this, a variety of exercises, group discussions, theoretical models, and real-life scenarios will be modeled to simulate effective solutions.
  • Captains’ Luncheon with Athletic Administration
    • A unique opportunity to have lunch with the John D Nichols Family Director of Athletics, Bob Scalise, and several other athletic department administrators to review athletic department and Harvard resources as well as programming specific to student-athletes. These lunches will be scheduled by sport season.
  • Chief Marketing Officers Program
    • A Marketing Department team liaison, selected for a one-year term by the coach, will work in tandem with Harvard Athletics Marketing to increase campus and community awareness. The goals of this position include building fan attendance, promoting ideas to further integrate academics and athletics, and to advance your team’s story and presence at the college.
  • Conflict Resolution Workshop
    • Dates: Sept. 20, Oct. 18
    • A workshop designed to help sharpen skills in the area of conflict resolution. This 90-minute session will enable captains to have a stronger foundation to better assist in management of potential team conflict.
  • Student-Athlete Advisory Committee
    • The Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) serves to provide Harvard varsity athletes with a substantial role in the overall policy-formation process regarding relevant and current issues in Harvard Athletics and the Ivy League. The SAAC holds the key responsibility of advising the department on issues of importance to student-athletes and to help further improve and increase community building opportunities for student-athletes and the college overall.
