CAMBRIDGE, Mass.
- Forward Katherine Sheeleigh scored a goal in the
93rd minute off a corner kick from Melanie Baskind to
give Harvard a 1-0 overtime victory against Ivy League rival Brown
Saturday afternoon at Ohiri Field. The Crimson, which has now
won five straight games, improves to 3-0 in the Ancient Eight and
6-5-1 overall, while Brown falls to 4-7 and 1-3 in conference play.
After a scoreless first half in which Brown earned six of nine
corner kicks and each team mustered six shots apiece, the Crimson
and Bears earned quality scoring chances in the second
stanza. Late in the 70th minute, Brown's Gina
Walker hit the crossbar, and Melissa Kim followed moments later
with a shot that was blocked in front by the Harvard defense.
Less than two minutes later, Christina Hagner gave Harvard its best
chance of the half, but her shot from inside the box was blocked.
In overtime, Brown almost scored a golden goal, when Marybeth
Lesbirel booted a hard shot from 30 yards out. Harvard goalkeeper
Lauren Mann leapt and deflected the ball off the crossbar before
taking control and clearing.
Up next on the schedule, Harvard hits the road to visit
archrival Yale Tuesday, Oct. 20. Game time is slated for 3
p.m.
