CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Senior forward Andre
Akpan of the ninth-ranked Harvard men's soccer team has been
named the Ivy League Player of the Week for the second time this
season, the conference announced Monday afternoon.
Akpan, who leads Harvard with 21 points on eight goals and five
assists, tallied one of the biggest goals of the season for
Saturday in the team's 1-0 win over No. 15 Brown. Early in the
second half, Akpan accepted a pass in the box from teammate Brian
Rogers, before spinning around and firing a shot that hit the back
of the net for the game's only score. With the win, Harvard remains
unbeaten in Ivy League play at 2-0-1 and is now 5-0 at home this
season.
In addition, Akpan now trails Chris Ohiri '64 by four goals for
Harvard's all-time career record. Akpan has 43 tallied to his
credit. Akpan and the Crimson visit Providence Tuesday afternoon at
3 p.m.
