CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – In the 83rd edition of
the Harvard-Dartmouth rivalry, No. 14 Harvard downed No. 21
Dartmouth 2-1 in Ivy League men's soccer action Saturday at
Ohiri Field. With the win, the Crimson improves to 11-3-1 with a
3-1-1 record in the Ancient Eight.
Kwaku Nyamekye chose a good time to score his first goal of the
season, as he blasted home a half volley off a corner kick from
Adam Rousmaniere, just 4:42 into action. Lucky Mkosana tied the
score at one all by netting a full volley in the 56th minute.
Maarten van Ess provided the assist on Dartmouth's goal by
flicking the ball to Mkosana with his head.
Co-captain Andre Akpan tallied the game winner in the 63rd
minute. Akpan got on the end of Brian Grimm's through-ball
over the top of the defense. Akpan dribbled around two defenders
and bent the ball around the Big Green's goalkeeper and into
the left side netting of the goal. With the score, Akpan now has 11
on the season and 45 in his career to put him two behind Chris
Ohiri '64 for the most goals in a career at Harvard. Austin
Harms made four saves in net for the Crimson, including a kick save
on a point-blank shot with ten minutes left to keep Harvard a goal
ahead.
