The Game:
The eighth-ranked Harvard men's soccer team, which is off to
the program's best start since 1996 with its 8-1 record,
returns to conference play, visiting Ivy League rival Cornell
Saturday night at 7 p.m. Harvard (1-0 Ivy League) is coming off a
2-0 shutout win at home against Holy Cross Wednesday, while Cornell
(4-3-2, 1-0) tied Penn, 2-2, Oct. 3.

Ben Tsuda and Andre Akpan each netted first-half goals against
Holy Cross, while Brett Conrad stopped two shots in his collegiate
debut in net. With the win, Harvard improved to 4-0 at home this

Series History:
Harvard and Cornell have played 70 times on the soccer field, and
the Crimson boasts a 37-20-13 series advantage. The Crimson has won
the last three games against the Big Red, including a 2-0 victory
last year on Oct. 11, 2008. In that contest, Michael Fucito
'09 and John Stamatis '09 supplied the offense with a
goal apiece, while Austin Harms made six saves for the clean
sheet.
About Harvard:
The Crimson has outscored opponents, 19-3, this season, including
8-1 in the first half of games and 10-2 in the second stanza. The
team is also enjoying a 51-13 advantage in corner kicks. Harvard is
4-0 at home and 4-1 in road contests.
With seven goals and five assists, Andre Akpan leads the team with
19 points. Brian Rogers, who has a Harvard-best three game-winning
tallies, stands second with five goals and 13 points. Rogers is
tied with Adam Rousmaniere for second with three assists. Desmond
Mitchell (two goals, two assists) and Jamie Rees (two goals) are
the Crimson's other multiple goal scorers.
Austin Harms owns a 7-1 record with four shutouts this fall. He
also boasts a 0.38 goals-against average and a save percentage of
.880. Brett Conrad has played in four contests and is 1-0 with one
shutout and a perfect 0.00 goals-against average.
About Cornell:
The Big Red boast a 4-3-2 record entering Saturday night's
game with Harvard. The team is 2-1 at home and is 0-0-1 in Ivy
League play. Opponents have outscored Cornell, 13-11, and have the
edge in corner kicks over the Big Red, 51-42.
Matt Bouraee, Brett Sumpio, Kyle Parsons and Chase Aaronson have
all netted two goals each for the team lead. Bouraee has also
dished out five assists for nine points to pace the Big Red. Scott
Caldwell and Ben Kenyon are second on the team with three assists
apiece.
Scott Brody has started every game in net and has two shutouts,
along with a 1.38 goals-against mark and a .764 save percentage,
stopping 42 of 55 shots faced.
Chasing History:
Andre Akpan is five goals shy from tying Chris Ohiri '64 for
the program's career lead. Ohiri notched 47 goals over the
course of his career. Akpan is Harvard's all-time leader in
points with 116 and assists with 32.

Harvard is currently ranked No. 8 in the Soccer Times, Soccer
America and NSCAA national polls, No. 9 in the College Soccer News
ranking and No. 16 in the Top Drawer Soccer poll.
Defense Wins Games:
Harvard has allowed only three goals in nine games this season,
good for a team goals-against average of 0.33. Entering the week,
Harvard was fifth in the nation in this statistical category.
Coming Up:
Harvard will face two ranked opponents next week as the team
visits No. 26 Connecticut Wednesday, before hosting No. 22 Brown
Oct. 17.
