Alex Chi scored the game-winner in overtime Saturday at Columbia. 

NEW YORK, N.Y. - No. 11 Harvard came back from a goal down late in the second half and defeated Columbia 2-1 in overtime in a key Ivy League matchup Saturday evening.

The victory puts Harvard one step closer to an Ivy title as the Crimson entered the day one point ahead of Brown and Dartmouth with victories against both foes this year. Harvard improves to 12-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the league while Columbia dips to 4-11-1 and 2-4.

Four minutes and 33 seconds into overtime, Alex Chi pounded home the game-winner on a double assist from Brian Rogers and Andre Akpan just 38 seconds after an offsides call against the Crimson. Chi took a through ball from Akpan to Rogers, who crossed a volley that Chi blasted over Columbia's goalie for the win.

The goal was Chi's second of the season while Akpan played a part in a 17th goal this year with his sixth assist to go with 11 goals.  

Harvard outshot the Lions 15-7 for the game.

Columbia stunned Harvard in the 66th minute when Mike Mazullo headed in his first goal of the season off a cross from Nick Scott for a 1-0 lead.

Rogers brought the Crimson back however with his marker in the 79th minute on a left-footed strike from 15 yards out to the near post. It was his sixth goal of the season.

The teams took the 1-1 tie into overtime as Columbia used an effective trapping defensive to draw several late offsides calls against the Crimson.

Early in the second half, Harvard's Rogers had a near miss to put the visitors ahead when he hit the near post with a shot two minutes into the second half.

Harvard had three corners in short succession midway through the opening period but could not find the net while Harvard's sophomore keeper Austin Harms made two saves, four seconds apart, to thwart a pair of Columbia bids at the end of the half.
