Georgetown with 15 points, four rebounds, four assists and threes

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University,
ranked 13th nationally, used a 24-6 run spanning the
halves to break away from a 33-33 tie and run past visiting
Harvard, 86-70, at the Verizon Center Wednesday afternoon.
Georgetown (9-1) enjoyed a physical affair throughout the day
although the young Crimson (7-3) gave the Hoyas everything they
could handle until midway through the day. After Harvard tied the
game at 33 with under four minutes to play, the Hoyas put together
an 11-0 run to end the half and used a 24-6 run spanning the halves
to build a 57-39 advantage with 14:34 left to play.
From the point forward, Georgetown was able to hold off the
Crimson thanks to its trio of Chris Wright, Greg Monroe and Austin
Freeman who totaled 71 points with Wight's 34 leading the way.
Jeremy Lin again led Harvard with 15 points as the senior guard
started 6-for-6 from the floor while adding four rebounds, four
assists and three steals in 34 minutes. Oliver McNally added 11
points in his return from a foot injury.
The teams combined on for excellent free throw shooting as
Harvard went 21-for-24 (.875) and Georgetown shot 15-for-18 (.833).
Harvard jumped out to a 4-0 lead on a pair of inside buckets
from Keith Wright. A steal and a dunk by Lin made it a 10-7 lead at
15:37. Georgetown took a 16-14 lead on a curl screen triple from
Clark at the 13:08 mark. With Harvard connecting on 6-of-9 start
and leading on the glass, 6-1, the Hoyas still led 18-17 with 11:55
to go thanks to the Clark triple.
A 3-point play from Freeman and a putback from Monroe made it a
25-17 Hoya lead at 9:42 before Lin connected on a deep triple from
the middle of the floor. Christian Webster followed with a triple
off a feed from Brandyn Curry and followed with two freebies for a
29-27 score in favor of the home side.
Another steal from Lin and an acrobatic layin against Monroe
kept it a two-point game and McNally followed with a steal and
layup of his own to tie the game at 33 with 3:17 left as Harvard
stayed above the 50 percent mark start at 11-for-20.
Georgetown went back on the offensive with its 11-0 run thanks
to a pair of triples from Freeman as Harvard misfired on its last
three shots.
NOTES: Jeremy Lin started the game 6-of-6 from the floor before
missing midway through the second half. At that point he had been
shooting 24-for-34 (.706) in his last three games against UConn,
Boston College and Georgetown ... Georgetown became the first team
this season to outscore Harvard in the paint (52-34) ... Harvard's
bench outscored the Hoyas, ,23-3, and has not been outscored in a
game this season.
