Particulars
Harvard takes on Navy for the first time in program history in its
last non-conference game at home.
Last Time Out
Despite a career-high 19 points from Christine Matera and a
double-double from Emma Markley, Harvard was unable to
come-from-behind against Marist, falling 85-70 Tuesday night.
Brogan Berry and Markley added 16 points, while Markley grabbed a
game-high 13 rebounds. Claire Wheeler chipped in with 10. After a
back and forth start to the game, Marist used a 16-3 run to close
out the first half and pull out to a 50-30 lead at half. Harvard
used an 18-4 run midway through the second to pull to within 66-58
but that was as close as the Crimson would get.
Way to Start
Harvard's 6-3 record through nine games is its best start to
the season since 2001-02.
Harvard Runs This Town
The Crimson won all three of its games against Boston area schools
this season. Harvard defeated Boston College (82-81), Boston
University (85-68) and Northeastern (90-85) all on its home court.
The Crimson averaged 85.6 points per game against its Beantown
neighbors.
Harvard also defeated Holy Cross, 74-57, last month to make it 4-0
against teams from Massachusetts. The Crimson will try to make it
5-0 when it plays at UMass on Jan. 6.
Block That Shot
Junior Emma Markley has 19 blocks this season for an average of
1.9 per game. She set a Colorado Tournament record for blocks in a
game with six against New Orleans (Nov. 27), while Harvard's
10 blocks against the Privateers was also a tournament record.
Scouting the Mids
Navy is 8-5 overall and coming off a 54-48 victory over Air Force
on Dec. 22. The Mids started the year off by winning its first four
games and had five victories through its first six contests.
Cassie Consedine and Angela Myers leads the team in scoring with
12.6 points per game and 10.1 ppg. Consedine paces the team in
rebounding with 7.8 per game.
The Series
This is the first meeting between the two schools.
Home Sweet Home
The Crimson is off to its best start at home since the 1997-98
season with a 5-0 record at Lavietes Pavilion this season.
Harvard has had the scoring touch at Lavietes Pavilion averaging
80.6 points per game at home this season.
Double-Doubles
Junior Emma Markley recorded her fourth straight double-double
against Marist and Victoria Lippert posted her first collegiate
double-double in Harvard's 90-85 win over Northeastern. The
Crimson is 3-1 when a Harvard player notched a double-double.
Help Me, Help You
Sophomore Brogan Berry has 66 assists this season, averaging 6.6
per game. She has handed out nine, three times so far.
Among the Best
In all games through Dec. 20, Emma Markley ranked 46th in the
nation in blocks (1.9 per game). Brogan Berry ranked eighth in the
nation in assists (6.9 per game) and 11th in assist/turnover ratio
(2.58).
Harvard is fifth in free throw percentage (.796) and 13th in
three-point field goal percentage (.441).
League Leaders (as of Dec. 28)
Brogan Berry leads the league in assist/turnover ratio (2.6) and
assists (6.9), while Victoria Lippert is tied for the lead in free
throw percentage (.846)
The Offense
Harvard leads the Ivy League in scoring offense with 74.4 points
per game. The Crimson leads the Ancient Eight in field goal
percentage (.441), free throw percentage (.796) and blocked shots
(4.4 per game).
Scoring Threats
Harvard has four players who average 10.0 points per game or more.
Emma Markley leads the team with 16.4 ppg, followed by Brogan Berry
with 14.4 ppg, Victoria Lippert with 12.5 ppg. and Christine Matera
with 10.7 ppg.
First Time for Everything
Harvard made its first trip to Colorado in program history over
Thanksgiving. It also played New Orleans for the first time on the
hardwood. Other first time opponents this season include, Navy and
New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT).
