DURHAM, N.H. – Freshman forward Brian
Rogers tallied a goal in the 60th minute and goalkeeper Austin
Harms recorded his third shutout of the year to lead the No. 6
Harvard men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory at New Hampshire
Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Crimson improves to 6-0 on
the season, matching the program's best start since 2007.
After each team fired three shots each on net in the first half
without scoring, the Crimson connected on its third shot on goal in
the second. Adam Rousmaniere had a shot blocked by UNH goalkeeper
Colin O'Connell, but Rogers was there to stuff home the
rebound to give Harvard the lead at 59:59. Rousmaniere earned the
assist on Rogers's fourth goal of the season. Rogers
has now tallied the game-winning score two games in a
row.
In the final minutes, the Wildcats had three chances to tie the
game, but kicks by Chris Banks and Joe Annese were blocked by the
Crimson defense, and another by Marcus Barr sailed wide of the
cage. Harms made three saves to earn the blank sheet, while
O'Connell stopped five shots in net for UNH (2-4-1). The
Crimson earned all three of its corner kicks in the second half and
owned a 12-11 advantage in shots for the game.
Up next, Harvard will face its second ranked opponent this
season as the team visits No. 3 Wake Forest. The Crimson and Demon
Deacons will meet Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.
