SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- Ryan Carroll made a career-high 47 saves and Eric Kroshus played a part in two keys goals to help the Harvard men's hockey team win its fourth straight ECAC Hockey game and hand first-place, 13th-ranked Union its first league loss, 4-1, Friday night at Messa Rink.

Kroshus set up a Conor Morrison goal and scored one of his own to rally Harvard (5-10-2, 5-5-2 ECAC Hockey) after Union (13-5-5, 7-1-3) took a second-period lead. Rookies Alex Fallstrom and Danny Biega scored empty-net goals late to wrap up the Crimson's third straight win against a ranked team and the Dutchmen's second loss in 16 games.

Harvard killed eight of Union's nine power plays and was 1 for 6 with the man advantage. Carroll made 16 saves on the penalty kill. The Dutchmen held a 31-19 edge in non-power-play shots and a 48-25 overall advantage. Union's Keith Kinkaid made 21 saves.

Each team had two power plays but could not convert in the scoreless first period. Carroll made 16 saves in the frame, including an outstanding point-blank stop on Jason Walters after Union's first-line center took a pass from out of the left corner. Jack Christian returned from injury for his first game action in nearly two years and delivered a big hit behind the Harvard goal in the first period.

The Dutchmen got another power-play chance early in the second period and took advantage, with Walters scoring from the right point at 3:20. Morrison answered barely two minutes later. Kroshus got the puck from Fallstrom, skated down the slot and backhanded a shot off Kinkaid's left pad. Morrison put home the rebound for his seventh goal. Kroshus gave Harvard the lead at 12:07, redirecting an Alex Biega shot from the right point after Chad Morin broke up a Union clear on the left.

For the second straight game, Harvard came out with a lead to start the third period and played its best hockey of the game. Each team had 11 shots in the frame, and Carroll made seven saves on four Union power plays as the Crimson clung to the one-goal edge. Danny Biega pushed the lead to two with an empty-net goal, the first tally of his career. Fallstrom sealed the victory, with Pier-Olivier Michaud assisting, in the final minute.
