CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Harvard sailing
team outraced 19 teams to capture the Captain Hurst Bowl, hosted by
Dartmouth, Saturday and Sunday. A combined two-division score of
168, behind an A-division victory and a third-place B-division
finish allowed the Crimson to sail to victory by a 17-point
margin.
Alan Palmer, Ryan Bryne and Quincy Bock sailed for Harvard in
the A division, tallying a score of 80 points, 13 ahead of
second-place Dartmouth. The trio notched seven top-three finishes
in 14 races and finished outside the top-five just three times. The
win caps off a stellar week for Palmer who was recognized by US
Sailing as the Sailor of the Week while also garnering
Harvard's COOP Athlete of the Week honors for his
efforts.
Another Harvard trio, John Stokes, Luke O'Connor and
Meghan Wareham, captured third in the B division. The group sailed
to five top-three finishes in the division and finished just three
points behind second-place Yale with 88 points.
Stanford and Yale finished second and third, respectively. The
Cardinal finished with 185 points, two fewer than the Bulldogs.
Harvard also had a quartet of freshmen on the water at the
Women's Intersectional at Yale. Morgan Russom and Isabel
Ruane sailed together in the A division while Caitlin Watson and
Louisa French paired together in the B division. The Crimson
finished 17th.
Harvard is scheduled to compete in four regattas this weekend:
the Sherman Hoyt Trophy, the Oberg Trophy and the Women's Stu
Nelson Trophy.
