Box Score Senior co-captain Katherine Sheeleigh leads Harvard with 17
points this fall (6-5-17) (Gil Talbot).
LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. – Katherine Sheeleigh
netted the 28th goal of her career to tie her for fifth place on
Harvard's all-time list, but the Harvard women's soccer
team dropped a 2-1 contest in overtime at Siena Tuesday
afternoon. Alexandra Millet recorded one save in goal for the
Crimson, which falls to 5-6-1 on the year, while Siena improves to
13-2-0.
Just moments into the game, Siena goalkeeper Laura
Ettinger misplayed a goal kick, deflecting the ball off Sheeleigh,
who recovered it and put a shot into the back of the net. The
goal, which was scored at 4:01, ties Sheeleigh for fifth in program
history with Joey Yenne '03.
The Crimson controlled play for the remainder of the half,
outshooting the Saints by a considerable, 11-2, margin, and earned
six of seven corner kicks in the frame.
In the second half, Harvard was called for a foul in the box,
setting up a penalty kick for Siena. Caitlin Cahalan ripped
the ensuing kick past Millet, knotting the game at 50:08.
Harvard nearly tied it in the 57th minute, but Elizabeth Barna, who
replaced Ettinger in net at halftime, stopped a chance by
Sheeleigh. At 59:34, Siena was whistled for a foul in its
box, leading to a penalty-kick attempt by Harvard's Melanie
Baskind. Baskind blasted a shot on goal, but Barna was there
to make the save and preserve the tie score. With the clock
ticking away, Elizabeth Weisman got a shot on net, but Barna
stopped that chance as well, forcing overtime.
In the first extra session, Sara Mikula ran with the ball down the
right side before leading a pass to Ashleigh Barone. Barone
finished with a kick on net, winning the game with a golden goal at
94:41.
Harvard, which outshot Siena 19-9 for the game, will visit
Princeton for an Ivy League matchup Saturday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m.
