HANOVER, N.H. - In the fourth EISA ski weekend
of the season Harvard finished ninth out of 13 participating
schools at the Dartmouth Carnival. The Crimson's women Nordic team
once again led the way with a sixth place finish in the 15K mass
start freestyle event.
Dartmouth and Vermont finished first and second while Middlebury
edged out New Hampshire for third place.
In the women's 15K, Alena Tofte and Esther Kennedy battled it
out over the grueling terrain in cold conditions with Tofte edging
her teammate by seven tenths of a second for a 14th
place finish. Kennedy not only had to try and catch Tofte but hold
off New Hampshire's Anya Bean - which she did by four tenths of a
second in a thrilling finish.
With 70 competitors in the men's 20K event, Anthony Ryerson led
the way for the Crimson as he crossed in 41st position
ahead of two point leaders for Bowdoin.
Caroline McHugh paced the Crimson in the women's GS during an
impressive set of runs that saw her climb from 62nd
position into 26th in a cluster of competitors.
In the men's GS, Chris Kinner once again led the way for Harvard
with a 41st place finish to hold off Bates' Alex Jones
in a combined time of 1:53.44.
Catherine Sheils had an impressive outing in the slalom,
finishing 22nd and climbing 17 positions in the process
with a combined time of 1:47.41. Kinner also registered a top 25
finish in the slalom event as the senior produced two nearly
identical runs to finish comfortable in that spot in advancing 22
positions from qualifying.
