'52 Head Coach for Harvard Men's Soccer

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- After leading the Crimson to
a 14-4-1 record and an appearance in the third round of the NCAA
tournament, Jamie Clark, The Virginia B. and James O. Welch '52
Head Coach for Harvard Men's Soccer, was honored as the NSCAA/Mondo
Northeast Region Coach of the Year.
In just his second season on the Harvard sideline, Clark guided
Harvard to the Ivy League title, as the Crimson went 5-1-1 in
Ancient Eight play. Harvard posted an 8-2 record at home
during the fall and reached as high as No. 6 in the national polls,
tying the highest the program has ever been ranked.
In addition to reaching the NCAA tournament for the fourth
straight season, including the second consecutive year under Clark,
the Crimson defeated Monmouth, 3-0, in a second-round matchup in
the tournament. Harvard advanced to the third round for the
first time since 1987, facing defending national champion Maryland.
Under Clark's tutelage, forward Andre Akpan was named the
finalist for the Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy, presented
to the nation's top collegiate player. Akpan and defender
Kwaku Nyamekye were both selected in the 2010 MLS SuperDraft, as
Akpan was chosen in the second round with the 22nd overall pick by
the Colorado Rapids. Nyamekye was taken in the fourth round
with the 60th pick by the Colorado Rapids. In addition, Akpan
was honored as the Ivy League Player of the Year, while freshman
forward Brian Rogers was tabbed the Ivy League Rookie of the
Year.
