CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The fifth-ranked Harvard men's
squash team snapped a two-match losing streak by topping No. 8
Penn, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the Barnaby Courts. The
Crimson remains one of two undefeated teams in Ivy League play,
improving to 4-0 in the Ancient Eight and 5-2 overall, while Penn
falls to 5-5 and 1-4 in conference action.
Colin West and William Ahmed had 3-0 wins for the Crimson, with
West claiming victory at the No. 1 position and Ahmed at the No. 8
spot. West defeated Danny Greenberg, 11-4, 11-6, 11-3 in
straight sets, while Ahmed took down Brooks Russell, 13-11, 11-5,
11-8. At the No. 2 position, Harvard's Richard Hill handed
Mark Froot a 3-1 loss, 11-2, 10-12, 11-8, 11-3.
After falling in the first game to Trevor McGuinness at the No. 4
slot, 11-7, J. Reed Endresen grabbed the next three sets for the
win, 11-5, 11-7, 11-7. At the No. 5 position, Jason Michas
cruised to a 3-1 victory, 11-3, 4-11, 11-7, 11-3, while Eliot
Buchanan also earned a win for Harvard, coming at the No. 6 spot
against Drake Porter, 11-4, 9-11, 11-7, 11-7. The victory was
Buchanan's first of the season.
The Crimson also won at the No. 9 position, as Alexander Ma
outplayed William Browne in four sets, 11-13, 11-9, 12-10,
13-11.
Harvard returns to action Sunday, as the Crimson will welcome No. 4
Princeton in another Ivy League matchup at 2 p.m.
