PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Harvard
women's lacrosse team fell to No. 4 Penn, 16-6 Saturday
afternoon at Franklin Field. Freshman Jennifer VanderMeulen led the
Crimson with three goals and an assist.
The Quakers (4-1, 1-0 Ivy) turned a 7-3 halftime lead into a
16-6 victory behind four goals from Erin Brennan. VanderMeulen
scored the first goal of the game, but the Quakers answered with
five straight scores. The Crimson closed the gap at 5-3, before
Penn scored six more to take an 11-3 advantage.
VanderMeulen won a team-high five draw controls, while sophomore
Tyler Petropulos scooped up three ground balls and caused three
turnovers to lead Harvard.
Katherine Martino made two saves in 38:58 in the net, while
sophomore Kerry Clark saw her first action of the season stopping
two shots in 21 minutes of play.
Harvard plays its first game at home March 17 against local
rival and nationally ranked Boston University. First draw is slated
for 4 p.m.
