CAMBRIDGE, Mass.—Former Harvard
men's hockey All-Americans Noah Welch '05 and Dominic
Moore '03 have been named to the ECAC Hockey All-Decade team
for the 2000s, the league office announced Friday.
Welch, a defenseman, is a first-team selection, while Moore has
been named to the second team at forward. Harvard was one of three
schools , along with Cornell and St. Lawrence, to have multiple
players honored. A committee of coaches, media members and league
administrators selected the group recognizing distinguished play of
ECAC student-athletes from the 1999-2000 season through 2008-09.
The players are the eighth and ninth former Harvard skaters to
be named to ECAC All-Decade squads. Joe Cavanagh '71 was a
part of the 1970s team as a forward. Hobey Baker Award-winners Mark
Fusco '83 (defenseman), Scott Fusco '86 (forward) and
Lane MacDonald '89 (forward) were all named to the 1980s
squad. Forwards Peter Ciavaglia '91 and Ted Drury '93
and defenseman Sean McCann '94 were part of the 1990s team.
A first-team All-America selection in 2004-05 and a second-team
pick in 2003-04, Welch captained the Crimson as a senior. He earned
first-team All-ECAC honors in 2004-05 and second-team selection in
2003-04 while making the All-Ivy League first team both seasons.
The Brighton, Mass., native was also an All-New England pick in
2002-03 and 2004-05. Welch registered 76 points on 23 goals and 53
assists in 129 career games. He played on two ECAC title-winning
teams (2002, 2004) and two ECAC runners-up (2003, 2005), helping
the Crimson reach the NCAA tournament in each of his four years.
Welch is in his fifth professional season. He is under contract
with the National Hockey League's Atlanta Thrashers and is a
member of the American Hockey League's Chicago Wolves. He has
skated 73 career NHL games with the Pittsburgh Penguins, Tampa Bay
Lightning and Florida Panthers.
Moore was a first-team All-America, All-ECAC and All-Ivy League
selection as Harvard's senior captain in 2002-03. He was
named second-team All-ECAC and All-Ivy in 2000-01, ECAC
All-Tournament in 2003, ECAC All-Rookie in 1999-2000, NCAA
All-Northeast Regional in 2003 and All-New England in 2000-01 and
2002-03. Moore ranks 11th all-time at Harvard with 147 career
points. He is tied for ninth in program history with 64 goals and
tied for 11th with 88 assists, all in 128 games played . He led the
team with 51 points and 24 goals as a senior and with 43 points, 15
goals and 28 assists as a sophomore.
The Thornhill, Ont., native currently skates for the Montreal
Canadiens after beginning the season with Florida. Moore is in his
seventh NHL season, having played for the New York Rangers,
Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Toronto Maple Leafs and
Buffalo Sabres in previous seasons. He has registered 125 points on
40 goals and 85 assists in 367 NHL games.
