WORCESTER, Mass. – Control problems hurt
the Crimson Thursday afternoon as Harvard dropped a nonleague
baseball contest at Holy Cross by a score of 14-1.
Harvard (6-12) is back in action this weekend with its Ivy
League openers at Princeton and Cornell. Holy Cross improves to 9-8
with the win.
Jonathan Strangio (0-1) got in a whole right away as he walked
the first three batters and then surrendered a three-run triple and
an RBI single on his next two pitches to make it 4-0 before getting
lifted in favor of Zach Hofeld.
A two-out walk led to two runs for the Crusaders in the third as
Brendan McCrea guided a line drive double to left.
Harvard's best chance in the early going came on a loud
double by Jeff Reynolds to lead off the fifth but he was stranded
at third base to end the inning.
Holy Cross opened the game in the sixth inning with seven runs
on nine hits, including eight consecutive safeties as the Crusaders
took a 13-0 lead.
Harvard got on the board in the ninth on doubles from Danny
Moskovits and Cole Arledge as the Crimson loaded the bases before
Holy Cross got out of the trouble with a strikeout.
