CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Harvard University baseball hosts the University of Pennsylvania in a three-game series with a doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 25 at 11:30 a.m. (ESPN+) and a single game on Sunday, Apr. 26 at noon (ESPN+) in the Crimson's final home series at O'Donnell Field with Harvard set to recognize the Class of 2026 with a senior ceremony in between games of Saturday's doubleheader.
What to Know
- The Crimson (8-22, 6-9 Ivy) hosts the Quakers (15-18, 9-6 Ivy) in the penultimate weekend of the conference season and in Harvard's final home weekend. Penn enters the weekend in third place in the Ivy standings while Harvard stands in fifth place, just one half game back of fourth place Columbia (6-8 Ivy).
- In between games of Saturday's doubleheader, the Crimson will recognize the Class of 2026 in a senior ceremony. This year's Harvard senior class includes Gio Colasante, Brian Dowling, Jordan Kang, Justin King, Max Lane, and Jack Smith.
- Harvard leads Penn in the all-time series, 121-82-1 in a series that dates back to 1886.
- After playing 23 of its first 26 games as the away team, the Crimson is in the midst of playing seven straight games as the home team from Apr. 17-26 to close out its 2026 home slate with all seven contests coming against Ivy opponents. The stretch began with a three-game series vs. Dartmouth (Apr. 17-18), continued with a single game vs. Brown (Apr. 21), and concludes with a three-game set vs. Penn (Apr. 25-26).
- As a team during conference only play, Harvard ranks third in the Ivy League in team ERA (4.06). In Ivy play, six Crimson pitchers have posted ERAs of 5.00 or below, including Brett Gable (0.00), Gio Colasante (2.27), Jack Smith (2.84), Ryan McHugh (3.37), Brian Dowling (3.86), and Davis Kahn (4.50).
- In the series finale against Dartmouth (Apr. 18), sophomore Cullen Stone hit a bases-clearing double before sophomore Gavin Smith posted the go-ahead RBI single in an eighth-inning rally as Harvard came back to beat the Big Green, 7-6, at O'Donnell Field.
- Senior infielder/right-handed pitcher Gio Colasante – a member of the John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award Watch List and a two-time Ivy League Player of the Week (Mar. 23 and Mar. 31) this season – has hit .298 on the year with seven home runs, 25 RBIs, 34 hits, 21 runs, and five doubles. As a pitcher, he has notched a 4.17 ERA over 45.1 innings. He ranks first in the Ivy League in home runs (seven), second in slugging (.544), and third in OPS (.940) as well as third in opposing average (.213) and ninth in ERA (4.17) as a pitcher. In Ivy only play, he has posted a .386 average with five homers, 14 RBIs, 22 hits, five doubles, and 12 runs as a batter while posting a 2.27 ERA and 3-0 record over 31.2 innings as a pitcher. In conference only play, he stands first in the Ancient Eight in home runs (five), second in slugging (.772), second in OPS (1.242), fourth in hits (22), sixth in average (.386), sixth in OBP (.470), and sixth in doubles (five), while ranking fourth in opposing average (.170), fifth in wins (three), seventh in ERA (2.27), and seventh in innings pitched (31.2) as a pitcher.
- Junior shortstop Jack Rickheim has hit .293 on the season with five home runs, 18 RBIs, 36 hits, 25 runs, and seven doubles. In Ivy only play, he has hit .339 with 21 hits, 17 runs, 13 RBIs, and four homers. Rickheim ranks fifth in the Ivy League in homers (five). In conference only play, he stands first in runs (17), third in homers (four), third in slugging (.613), fourth in OPS (1.010), sixth in doubles (five), ninth in average (.339), and ninth in hits (21). In the series finale at Cornell (Mar. 30), he went 4-for-6 with two home runs, five RBIs, four runs, and a double.
- Sophomore right-hander Andrew Abler has registered a 4.82 ERA on the year with 29 strikeouts over 46.2 innings. He earned the win in the series finale at Cornell (Mar. 30), throwing 6.0 innings and permitting two runs – both unearned – with a season-high six strikeouts. Abler tallied a season-high six strikeouts over 4.0 innings at Tulane (Feb. 20) before throwing 6.0 innings and permitting just three runs at Liberty (Mar. 8).
- Out of the bullpen, first-year left-hander Brett Gable and junior right-hander Ryan McHugh have both registered ERAs below 4.00. Gable has notched a 2.84 ERA with 18 strikeouts over 19.0 innings with two saves while McHugh has posted a 3.86 ERA with 14 strikeouts over 18.2 innings with two saves. In conference play, Gable has registered a 0.00 ERA with five strikeouts over 9.1 innings with two saves, and McHugh has compiled a 3.37 ERA with seven strikeouts over 10.2 innings.
- The Crimson played its first 19 games of the season on the road. The stretch started with four series – at Tulane (Feb. 20-22), at Rice (Feb. 27 to Mar. 1), at Liberty (Mar. 6-8), and at California Baptist (Mar. 13-16) – outside the region. Harvard then played two Ivy series – at Columbia (Mar. 21-22) and at Cornell (Mar. 29-30) to close out the stretch.
- Harvard was selected to finish fourth in the 2026 Ivy League Baseball Preseason Poll. The Crimson totaled 73 points to land in the top half of the eight-team poll. Columbia (118 points, nine first-place votes), Yale (116 points, seven first-place votes), and Penn (100 points) took the poll's top three spots. Princeton (49 points), Cornell (45), Dartmouth (41), and Brown (34) rounded out the poll in order.Â
