CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The visiting Boston University
Terriers jumped on the board early and held the Crimson hitters at
bay as the Harvard softball team dropped its final non-conference
contest of the regular season, 4-1, Thursday at Soldiers Field. The
Crimson slips to 22-21 overall on the year while BU ups its overall
mark to 27-18.
BU struck in the top of the second as starting pitcher Whitney
Tuthill plated Emily Roesch with a single to center field. An
inning later, the guests took a 4-0 lead, thanks to a Roesch single
to right that drove in two and another RBI single from Tuthill. The
Crimson got on the board in the fourth as Whitney Shaw took a 2-2
pitch deep over the left field wall for her team-leading 10th home
run of the season. Harvard managed one hit in the fifth and seventh
innings but was unable to mount a comeback.
Ellen Macadam, Jessica Ferri and Jennifer Francis had the other
hits for Harvard. Julia Moore absorbed the loss in the circle,
going three innings and allowing four runs on five hits. Margaux Black pitched the final four innings, scattering two hits and not
allowing a run. Tuthill earned her 10th win of the season for BU
and Cassidi Hardy earned her first save for the Terriers.
Harvard wraps up its regular season with a pair of doubleheaders
against division rival Dartmouth, beginning Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
Harvard enters the weekend on top of the Ivy League North
standings, ahead of the Big Green by two games.
