COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Katey Stone, The Landry
Family Head Coach for Harvard Women's Ice Hockey, has been
named head coach of the U.S. Women's National Program
throughout the 2010-11 season, the league announced Thursday. Stone
will assume control of the program that boasts a number of former
and current Harvard student-athletes within its ranks.
Stone's first action as head coach will be at the USA
Hockey Women's National Festival in Lake Placid, N.Y., in
August. She will also be behind the bench for the 2010
Women's Four Nations Cup in Canada in November and the 2011
International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Women's
Championship in Switzerland in April, 2011. The 16-year coaching
veteran has previous experience as a head coach in the U.S.
National team system, leading the U.S. Women's Select Team to
the 2008 Women's Four Nation's Cup title and the first
gold medal in program history at the 2008 IIHF World Women's
U-18 Championship.
Stone is coming off a landmark season with the Crimson, as she
became the winningest coach in collegiate women's hockey
history, collecting her 339th career win as a head coach. Stone
also led Harvard to a 20-8-5 overall record in 2009-10 and its
eighth NCAA tournament appearance in program history.
USA Hockey also announced the roster that Stone will lead at the
Women's National Festival in August, which features four
current and former Harvard players. 2007 Patty Kazmaier Memorial
Award recipient and three-time Olympic Team member Julie Chu is one
of 12 forwards on the roster and joins rising senior and 2010-11
co-captain Kate Buesser up front for the U.S. Two-time Olympian
Caitlin Cahow will hold down a defensive spot and rising senior and
2010-11 co-captain Leanna Coskren rounds out the Crimson
representatives on the team.
